Episode 118: Intel's Faux Pas

So here's where Intel is at:

Ars Technica and Seeking Alpha explain the possible lawsuit situation in detail.

The problem with suing is that:

  1. Connectix emulated x86 with Virtual PC for Mac.
  2. Bochs, an x86 PC emulator, has existed for quite some time.
  3. Other companies have tried to stop emulation, but haven't always been successful. Sony and Bleem! come to mind as does Nintendo.

Though not quite related to x86, the case of Tengen and Nintendo may or not be used as precedent regarding any future lawsuits. Finally, Tech Radar also explains why emulation is a legal gray area.
